Cleaning the Microwave - yuck!

I must admit that cleaning the microwave is one of my least favourite household tasks.  Its right there with toilets and bath tubs.  BUT there is an easy way to do it and its FAST too!  I really wish someone had taught me this years ago.
First step: put a measuring cup or mug half filled with water in the microwave and turn it on high for 1 minute.  (If you've just warmed something up in there and its nice and steamy grab your Enviro and wipe away).
Second step: Using your Norwex Enviro Cloth moistened, wipe out the inside.  Don't forget the turn table.
Third Step: rinse cloth and repeat if necessary.
Fourth step: No WAIT  - you're finished already!
Between the steam in your microwave and the Enviro Cloth it couldn't be easier.  Want more info check out my Norwex Consultant website at http://virginiamoffat.norwex.biz

Starting to get back on track

Well here I am just past the half way point in my pregnancy and finally feeling well enough to move and actually think about cleaning my home once again.  Even with my Norwexing (http://virginiamoffat.norwex.biz) and Epicurean (www.epicureselelctions.com) cooking I have fallen VERY far behind.  But today I started to remedy that lack of effort.
Although sitting here I am already regretting going one step further than just a simple vacuum and mopping of my master bedroom and en suite I feel better about it FINALLY getting it clean.  I mean REALLY clean.  I started by simply vacuuming and sweeping the floors and then I started to use the Norwex Mop to clean my walls and ceiling.  Then I mopped.  But I couldn't stop there.  I ended up using a 3:1 dilution of the Sanira toilet bowl cleaner to thoroughly cleanse around the base of the toilet bowl and the walls and side of the cabinet that surround the toilet itself.  Its amazing how I didn't notice the smell of urine in there until I started cleaning it properly.  The mixture sure helped the bathroom smell 'clean' too.  Since we all know that clean doesn't smell it was strange actually having a clean scent in the bathroom.
Once the base of the bowl and the surrounding walls were clean I rinsed out my Enviro Cloth and started wiping the cabinet off and getting all of the toothpaste splashes off of the walls.  Its amazing how much we as adults can spread toothpaste around a room.  But of course that's nothing compared to what 2 young children can do with toothpaste.  It was at this point that my 4 year old daughter decided she wanted to help out with some cleaning too.  Who am I to object?  I got her her very own Enviro Cloth and she started cleaning her own bathroom.  She ended up doing a great job!  Wiping counters, mopping the floor and straightening all of the paraphernalia on the counter too!
At this point my aching back started to kick in too so I sat down and opened the vanity doors.  I shouldn't have done that.  I ended up pulling everything out of that vanity.  I had a set of hot curlers from about 1985 in there, a clip in hair piece (I decided to keep that so my girls could use it for dress up) from 1990 something, about eight travel/makeup bags all with various levels  of crap in them and about 500 packets of dental floss and travel toothpaste as well as travel sized shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.  I weeded through that lovely collection and decided that I really don't need THAT many travel/makeup bags and have set some aside for 'getting rid of' somehow this week.
After having done all this I feel much better about the present state of that bathroom.  I still have a few things to put away and the 'medicine cabinet' to organize again but I made one heck of a start today.
Being 5 months pregnant and having a pre-existing back problem doesn't make cleaning fun.  Not by a long stretch.  But with the help of the Norwex products that I LOVE I can do just a little bit at a time.  Tomorrow I will finish the bathroom and continue working on the master bedroom as well.  But tonight I'm dressing up (it's Halloween) as a pregnant witch who is resting on the sofa while my wonderful mother-in-law takes the girls out trick or treating and my fabulous hubby hands out candy to the critters that come to our door.
One day and one room at a time.  But now it will certainly be easier to maintain the bathroom since it is clean enough to eat in there.

Thoughts on recipes and cooking during the school year

I'm starting to figure out the fall meal plan and so far so good.  BUT I don't want my children to get sick of sandwiches and yogurt for lunch so I need to figure out some ways to 'spice things up' for them.  I need to keep it to things that they'll actually eat but things that are interesting and tasty too.  Combine needing variety in their lunch box with avoiding "Chicken Thursdays" leaves me wondering.  I know I'm not the only one who is thinking this so maybe its time to create some kid friendly, healthy, fun and easy on mom (or dad) ideas.
In the next few blogs I will be including some recipes for school lunches, easy suppers and even mom's (or dad's) 'special' lunches.  We always take time looking after everyone else and sometimes we need to treat ourselves too.  I will do my best to use leftovers for lunches or keep it to the basics that most of us already have in our homes.  Obviously I will be using my Epicure Selections seasonings for many of the recipes so if you see something you want to try let me know and I will add your items to my next order.  But selling is not my only goal.  I have had friends asking for better ideas for their family for years and I thought this is the perfect forum for sharing these ideas.  I just happen to LOVE the items offered by Epicure.  (My gingerbread cookines are just one example of how people thought I changed my recipe just by changing to Epicure spices/herbs.)
They have a lot of fabulous recipes online at http://www.epicureselections.com/ and I will have some of those featured here but I will also let you know some of my family's favourites.  I have SO many of the products but I rarely use them as the labels suggest!  Yes folks I can 'go outside the box' when it comes to cooking.
For my gluten free friends I will also include some of my gluten free versions in combination with the 'standard' versions but know that the taste tests in my home will be the gluten free versions so it may be a wee bit different using 'regular off the shelf' non-GF products and flour combinations.
Then the quick and easy clean up using my Norwex Enviro Products... using the Enviro Cloth to clean up most of the messes most of the time.  If you want to check those offerings out don't forget to check out http://virginiamoffat.norwex.biz/ but again its about helping NOT selling.  Keeping things simple and fast to help the family meal maker with easy solutions.
I can't wait to share!
Enjoy.  Virginia

Here comes the fall...

September is here! Our oldest has returned to school and our youngest has just started JK.  So here I sit with no children under foot for the first time in nearly 7 years. How am I taking advantage of this time?  Well so far there has been some mommy quiet time and a tea date with another mommy friend.  So how has my Cooking and Cleaning with Virginia business and the state of my own home??
Well to be honest I let things slack off over the summer with my business but I am somewhat back in the saddle now.  Why do I say somewhat?  Well I'm three and a half months pregnant and have been instructed to 'take it easy'.  Thus the reason my business slacked off this summer.  Now that things seem to be settling down somewhat I am able to return to home parties and developing my business just a little more slowly than before.  I will be offering 1-2 party dates per week and doing an open house in my home once a month in order to keep things going.  But of course email and online orders are always going to be handled as efficiently as possible throughout the pregnancy and after the baby comes.
As for my own home... well let me tell you how glad I am to have Norwex in my life.  Although my home is messy and somewhat cluttered I still manage to take moments, which is all that are needed, to clean my floor, wipe my counters or swish my toilets.  The ease of cleaning with Norwex makes it possible to actually keep it clean, most of the time.  The fact that I don't have to use chemicals to clean not only makes it quicker and easier it also means it means that I'm not worrying about the chemicals and my baby.  I can clean my oven with our fabulous Oven and Grill Cleaner .  By myself without vacating the house or making myself sick.  I can clean the bathroom without feeling like I've been gassed by the bleach cleaners and other noxious chemicals.
The microfiber and enzyme based cleaning products have allowed me to feel confident that my home is clean and safe for my family.
Now I guess I should get off the computer and do some Norwexing and put the laundry away.

Cold and Flu Season Be Gone!

Here it is the end of April and our family has nearly escaped cold and flu season unscathed.  Now don't get me wrong we have had a few minor fevers and colds this past season but NOTHING compared to years past.
Since my first was born, winter has been a season of trips to the ER and hospitalizations for both kids.  Between serious ear infections, flu type bugs and pneumonia we have had our share of illness.  This year has been different.  We had a couple of lingering low grade fevers for both kids and both my hubby and me.  We had lots of sniffles and colds too.  In fact my eldest has had a minor fever and headaches off and on all week.  (Spring is her worst season because her allergies are at their height and her immune system is working hard dealing with that so she's more likely to get sick at this time of year.)  But we have thus far managed to avoid the Norwalk type viruses that have been going around.  No pneumonia and no serious ear infections or flu bugs that involved spewing from various orifices.  I love it!
We no longer use and chemicals in our home with 1 exception - our dishwasher detergent since our new dishwasher has a stainless interior and the Norwex solution can't be used with stainless steel dishwashers.  We have some 'stuff' out in the garage for that  type of mess but nothing is used inside.  There may be some naysayers who think that chemicals are the only way but 'proof is in the pudding' as they say and my family is healthy.
Although I am still working on the clutter that envelops our lives with 2 young children and a busy work and social calendar, my house is clean.  My kids are healthy and I attribute it to many things but the Norwex is the new thing and I think this year it has made a huge difference for us.  Cleaning is SO much easier that it actually gets done more regularly than it did before Norwex and without chemicals the house is getting cleaner too.  No residue left behind to collect extra dirt and dust.  No chemicals polluting our air.  Surfaces cleaner just using water!  Could it get any better?  I think not.

Connecting to My Facebook Page

Just a simple connection to my Facebook page until I figure out how to properly link the accounts.  I am so NOT technically inclined.  But this too I will learn.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cambridge-ON/Virginias-Cleaning-with-Norwex/121796814559223
I'll start posting tips here soon too.

Virginia's New Norwex Blog!

I have been selling Norwex Enviro Products since March of 2010 and what a difference these products have made in my life!
I am starting this blog in an attempt to share my enthusiasm for Norwex products and to help my clients stay on top of their own cleaning 'issues'.  Many of my clients have mentioned that they don't have time to clean.  Well let's forget about cleaning and start Norwexing together.
I am going to let you all in on a little secret - I HATE cleaning!  Using the Norwex Enviro Cloth and Polishing Cloth along with a  few other basic tools has changed all of that!  Since I can clean my kitchen in little spurts of effort while waiting for the kettle to boil or the microwave to beep it makes Norwexing my way to do things and 'cleaning' a thing of the past.  Sure there are times that I too 'fall off the wagon' and get lazy but with Norwex http://www.norwex.com/  and Fly Lady http://www.flylady.net/ I have managed to keep my home clean and I'm getting it organized too!
The tips that Fly Lady offers in combination with the fabulous Norwex products that I use and sell have changed my outlook on cleaning and even my outlook on life.  The day to day 'druggery' of being a stay at home mom (SAHM) isn't what it once was.  I can actually enjoy my children and play with them without feeling guilty!
What do I intend to do with this blog?  Share my cleaning tips and timing with you.  What does that mean?  Well for example today I have used the Norwex Mattress cleaner to spray my children's beds and stuffed toys as well as their carpet and comforters.  The Mattress Cleaner is a fantastic product that eradicates dust mites and therefore in my household helps to reduce the affects of my daughter's asthma and allergies and my husband's sleep apnea and my own allergies as well.  We can all sleep better and have a healthier environment for breathing.  The Mattress Cleaner uses enzyme technology to remove the food source for dust mites allowing them to starve to death.  The cleaner's effects last up to 6 months but in my highly allergic and asthma riddled home I use it every 4 months (give or take a week or two).
If you have the Mattress Cleaner go use it.  If not let me know and we'll get you some!  This is one product I feel every home needs to make it healthier and happier!
For now that is all.  But as I do more Norwexing I'll keep you posted in little blips and blurbs... and by the way today is also laundry day using my Norwex laundry Detergent and Dryer balls.  Less waste and less than 5% phosphates going into the water system per bag of luandry detergent in my house...  What is your phosphate rating on your laundry detergent?
